Friday's Foto

(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
I decided to post another flower to cheer up those of us who have had extremely cold temperatures this week and/or quite a bit of snow.  It will get warm again-

Spring is coming- will be here before you know it-

Also, I think this is a beautiful flower, but am not sure what it is?

If you know, please leave a comment below!

Dog Photography- The Eyes Have It!

(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
The eyes have it- you should never stare into the eyes of an animal - very dangerous and you could have disastrous results for you and the animal.  Photographing, without flash, gives a different view of the dog.

Dog Photography - SPLATTT!!!!!!!

(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
When I go through my work after photographing, seems like I always get a photograph of a dog sticking it's tongue at me- never fails- every shoot.  Now, it's probably more my sense of humor than anything else- but then, is it?

Sunday's Thought

We welcome our friend Joe to share today-

I've been battling depression and anger. As you know, we had to make a tough decision (toughest decision I've had to make) to put one of our dogs down (blog.allenpearsonsphotos.com, Sunday's Thought, Aug. 25, 2013).

Zane was loved. He was an amazing dog. And yet my wife and I had to make the choice to end his life here on earth.

Since then, I've battled with the anger I've felt towards God and the way He has let this world go.

But am I really angry at God or is there something else that I'm angry about?

God is good. I know this. His ways are higher than my ways. He knows the results of every action. And He means it all for good.

Can I really be mad at a good God? Or, like I said, is it something else that I'm angry at?

I think that's the thing. While I feel I'm angry at God, I'm really angry for the sin in this world.

Sin entered into the world. It's created the death and destruction we now face every day.

The sinful nature of man has created imperfections that plague us and drag us down. We feel angry. We feel pain. We feel hurt.

This isn't because of God. It's because of us and our actions.

As I'm struggling with this anger, I try to express it to Him. Most of the time I try to blame Him. To throw God under the bus. To yell and curse and hate on a good God.

I'm coming around to the fact this anger isn't at God but at our fallen world.

Remember this as you struggle through the pains of life. God is good. He doesn't deserve your anger.

He'll take your anger, but it's not just. He'll allow you to vent at Him, but it's not right.

The amazing thing? He'll still love you anyways.

Dog Photography, Rescue Dog Photography

(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved

Over the years, I've spent some time photographing dogs and cats for animal rescue groups.  A good photograph of the animal helps to get the dog or cat adopted.

What started out as helping the group who rescued the dog I adopted has turned into a passion-

I was walking through an animal shelter when I saw this little guy in a small suitcase-type bag. He was with his human and heading home.  He looked so happy I couldn't resist photographing him.

Friday's Foto- The Cold Front

Weather fronts coming into the area can create some interesting photography if you alert to the weather and the skies.

I've managed to capture some interesting photographs of clouds, which I have in my gallery, Cloud Portraits, that show cold or warm weather fronts coming in or a storm on it's way.

Photographing the Seasons - Snow at Walney

"Snow at Walney"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
Walney.  One of my favorite places to photograph which I've probably told you a hundred times or more.  One of the great things with nature photography is you can go back to the same place several times and not see the same thing each time though you may be seeing the same thing each time.  Confused?

Well, I've been in this location probably about a hundred times or so.  Whether walking Noah, photographing or just taking a walk to get away from the stress.  Each time I've been to this location and photographed, I've seen something different because of the season or the lighting or just my own perspective of looking at the scene to shoot.

Snow at Walney was taken in early March.  The reflections on the creek got my attention during this visit.  Since I was photographing on a bridge, I had to allow for a slight curve in my stand to get a level image.

Over the coming seasons, I'll share a few more photographs of this scene and it's natural beauty.

Where is your favorite place to photograph?  How often do you go there?

Sunday's Thought

GraphicStock
Is God calling you to do something for Him?  Is it sharing the Gospel with a hurting friend or a friend you know needs to hear it?

Maybe its buying someone a meal at the local burger fast food?

Or, how about those clothes you don't wear anymore simply because they are out of style or you've put on some weight and you're to donate them to a reputable charity to help someone who needs clothes for an interview or work?

Should you take time to help in the local soup kitchen where meals are served to the homeless?

Maybe you don't know what God's Will is for you or His Calling on your life.  Maybe you just need sit, meditate on His Word and spend time in prayer.

While you're waiting for an answer- go and help those who need it most-

Photographing the Seasons - Snow and the Bushes

"Snow and the Bushes"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
One of the simpliest snow images I've created over the years, but it has become one of my favorites.  Funny thing in, am not sure why?  Is it because of the snow being everywhere around the bush so it adds to the bush?

"Snow and the Bushes" was taken in Falls Church, VA on a whim. Just pointed my camera and shot!

What do you think? Do you like this photo or not?

Photographing The Seasons - Snow on the Rocks at Great Falls National Park

"Snow on the Rocks at Great Falls National Park"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
One of the favorite places in Northern Virginia for area photographers, and probably tourists or visiting photographers, is Great Falls National Park.

The Potomac River begins as a trickle of water in a small park named Fairfax Stone in West Virginia and crosses through the Northern Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland region as a raging river.  After snow melts or during heaving rains it becomes a spectacular and sometimes dangerous place to see the full force of nature.

"Snow on the Rocks at Great Falls National Park" was captured a few years ago after the Northern Virginia area had a tremendous winter of repeated blizzards and heavy snows.  Several storms, a few times one after the other, would leave at least a foot of snow on the ground.

My friends and I had never seen so much snow.  After a bit, we ventured out to Great Falls National Park to see what we could see-

Cat Photography

(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
So far, my experience with cats is in working with PetConnect Rescue, Potomac, Maryland.  When they need photographs of cats they've rescued to use for publications and websites, I'll help them out once or twice a year.  Of course, if they needed photography work done more often, I would be there to help out.

Though I am more of a dog guy, I got into Cat Photography because my wife adopted a Maine Coon Cat who won my heart in a matter of no time at all.  We've had two cats in our married life, and will probably adopt again.

Wednesday's Words -New Year's Resolutions 2014

Are you making any New Year's Resolutions this year?  I like to call them  " New Year's Revelations," meaning that if I actually succeed with them, it'll be a revelation!

I heard on the radio last week, unfortunately I don't have a reference to the story, that many people make resolutions to change their lives in a new year like going to the gym, quit smoking or drinking or whatever only to not be successful within the first month. So, when they fail, they give up the first time.

Remember the old saying? "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again?" I can hear my father telling me that as a child over and over.  May seem a bit trivial to bring that say up, but, there is a lot of truth to it- why not keep trying? Why not, try again and again?  If the resolution is something you want to do for yourself, or maybe for someone else, if it's important enough to attempt- isn't it important enough to try until you get it right?

I know someone who wanted to quit smoking which I hear is quite the challenge.  She tried various methods until she was successful.  It took her at least a year! She kept at it until she met her goal.  We celebrated with her when she made it.  And, we were there when she failed to encourage her to start again!

My resolutions, revelations as I said earlier, are to loose some weight, eat better, get back in the habit of Deep Water Aerobics exercise and walking Noah.  I've gotten lazy in on the latter- and Noah reminds me by bring a croc to me-

What are your resolutions and how do you plan to succeed? Please leave comments below-
