Sunday's Thought

Think of your closest friend. (And let's not say Jesus this time. We know that's the politically correct person to call your closest friend. In this example, it's okay not to say Jesus.) Think of what you do with him or her.

What are some of those things? You probably:

Call your best friend on the phone

Talk daily (or quite frequently)

You share details of your life with them

Others hear stories of your exploits together

The list goes on and on about what you do with your closest friend. You spend time with them and you get to know them and you do things together. That's what close friends do.

Now, let's go back to the beginning. There, I told you not to mention Jesus. I did that for a reason.

I want you to now think about what you do with Jesus.

Do you really spend time with Him?

Are you taking the time out of your day to sit and chat with him?

Is He the center of your conversations?

Have you thought about Him frequently?

If you're anything like me, the answer is, sadly, a no...

Honestly, I'm not that great at spending time with Jesus. My days are filled with things that please me and activities that earn me a living.

Rarely do I have time to actually spend with my Lord and Savior. Or should I even call him that with the way I treat him?

I often wonder that. I don't know about you but that's how I feel.

Jesus is left on the side of the road as I speed by with the rest of my life. Only thought of at my rising and going to bed. You know, because that's when I'm supposed to pray to Him.

Thinking about this makes me sad. I know I'm not right in thinking about Jesus so infrequently and interacting with Him even less.

That's why I wanted to confess that to you guys today. I wanted to let you know I've failed in my relationship with Jesus.

I haven't treated him like a best friend. I've barely treated him like a friend at all.

Thankfully, He's a true friend. He's willing to take me back and call me His own when I realize my neglect for Him.

And I know He's the same for you. When you realize you're not where you're supposed to be. Or you haven't been the friend to Jesus that Jesus has been to you. He's right there, waiting for you to turn around and say I'm sorry.

Let's confess that today. Let's tell Jesus "I'm sorry, I'm not the best friend I want to be. I want to be closer to you Lord. Help create that kind of heart within me."

Garden Perspectives - A Sunflower

Another one of my favorite summer flowers- the Sunflower.  I've been wanting to get to one of the local sunflower farms in Virginia or Maryland for a few summers now- but it hasn't worked out yet.

My neighbor grew a few sunflowers from seeds in garden containers which is where I captured this photograph.

"For I know the thought that I think toward, you saith the Lord,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me,
and I will harken unto you."

Garden Perspectives - Hosta

"Hosta"

The gardeners favorite plant.  It's hardy and will survive just about every condition.  Even some of the worst gardeners can grow Hostas.

Hostas are generally planted in shady areas though there are a few which can survive in some sunlight.  As with most plants, there are several varieties to choose from.  Look at them, consider the area you want to plant them, and make the selection.

Sunday's Thought

The Heavenly Choir is about to sing!

For Jesus the King-

Has brought home the Choir Master-

To lead them in the many songs

Of “Alleluia to the King!”

Sopranos, Altos, Tenors, Baritones,

Countertenors and Basses-

All have arrived, as no part is missing-

None too few- never too many

The musicians come in

And take their places

“Alleluia to the King”

Organist, Pianist, Keyboardist and drummers,

Cellists, Bassists, Violinists, Violists, and Mandolinists,

Flutists, Clarinetists, Hornists, Tubists,

Every instrument you could find, none missing

No tuning needed. No rehearsing required.

No stopping at the wrong notes

Or playing too fast

For the Choir Master

Is finally leading

The Heavenly Choir

which was so much

Of his earthly dreaming.

Dedicated to my father,

Dog Photography

"Smiles"

One of the best ways to enjoy your dog is through dog photography.  Photographing your own dog can be quite difficult as they often think you want to play when you are really trying to capture moments of them for your keepsake.  From experience I speak!

When I photograph for you, I work to capture the personality you know and love in your dog.  While I will do portraits, I aim more towards lively candid photography at locations where you live, play or exercise.   These photographs will be cherished in years to come.

If you prefer other products with your dog's image on it, I am happy to work with you on these.

Garden Perspectives- "Ahh Sunshine!!"

In my garden a few years ago, I planted the "Coneflower Echinacea 'Sunrise'." One afternoon as it was blooming, I captured this moment where the flower looked like it was praising the "sunshine."

Garden Perspectives - Cooper's Ice Plant

"Cooper's Ice Plant"

For years, I would see this flower in my local garden center but went on to choose something else.  When I went to redesign my front yard garden with perennials instead of annuals, I selected several colors of the Cooper's Ice Plant.  I planted them according to the directions.

The color the flowers brought to the yard in the summer months was stunning.

The winter of 2014 was terribly cold, one of the coldest I can remember for the Virginia area.  Unfortunately, I lost most of my Cooper's Ice Plants along with several others.

As I determined to redesign the front garden again, I decided to turn to Cooper's Ice Plant since they gave such beautiful color and a unique presentation over the years.

Garden Photography has grown to be a part of my garden work- keep your camera handy and ready to shoot as you never know what you may see that will inspire you.

Garden Perspectives: "The Garden"

"The Garden"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
The month of August is a bit sad for me- usually means the warm weather of summer will soon be fading away into hurricane or tropical storms followed by the cool temperatures of fall.  While we usually do not get hurricanes, we'll occasionally have the after-effects or its downgraded to a tropical storm.

Anyway, I love walking through gardens like Green Springs in Alexandria, VA, and seeing flowers in full bloom like these.

Garden Perspectives: White Strawflower

"White Strawflower"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved

Another one of my favorite annuals, "White Strawflower."  These flowers have an interesting characteristic:  they close up at night and when it rains (or they get wet by my a sprinkler).  Further, the petals feel like they are made of straw.

In my container garden, I like to plant "different annuals" each year- meaning flowers you don't normally see or can't find at the home improvement store.  These flowers, along with the red and yellow strawflowers, are planted each year as I enjoy them quite a bit.

In the Midst

In the midst of pain, there is peace
In the midst of grief, there is hope
In the midst of sorrow, there is joy
In the midst of tears, we find healing
In the midst of it all, God is there
