Sunday's Thought

Earlier this week, I received a text from a friend this week after the earthquake struck Amatrice, Italy, killing 290 people across the region.  This came after another strong earthquake in another part of the world.

My friend said, "with two major earthquakes in the last 24 hours, these verses came to mind. Praise God, (6) And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. (7) For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are but the beginning of the birth pains. - Matthew 24:6-8, ESV"

While grieving the loss of life in the earthquakes, it is a reminder the Lord will return to this earth one day to take the Christians, those who have given their lives to Him and accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior, to their heavenly home.  We do not know the day or the hour of Christ's Return.

Are you ready for His Return?  If not or you're not sure, here is how you can be sure,

Admit
Admit that you are a sinner, just like everyone else born into this world, until we  confess to Jesus Christ and ask His forgiveness:

"(23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
(24) and are justified by his grace as a gift,
through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,"
-Romans 3:23-24, ESV

"(23) For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 6:23, ESV

Believe
Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ:

(16) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish
but have eternal life."
 -John 3:16, ESV

Confess
Confess of your sins in a prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ:

(9) "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. "
- Romans 10:9, ESV

(13) For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”   -Romans 10:13, ESV

And, Pray this prayer

"Lord Jesus,
I know I am a sinner and do not deserve eternal life.
I believe You died and rose from the grave to make me a new creation
and to prepare me to dwell in your presence forever.
Jesus, come into my life and take control,
forgive my sins and save me.
I place my trust in You alone
for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life."

Amen

So now what?

If you prayed this prayer with your whole heart and believed what you did, you are now a Christian.  My suggestion is to find a local church and become involved.  Talk to the pastor about this experience and ask him to teach you where to go or what to do next.

If you are not familiar with a local church, a few excellent resources to get you started or who can follow up with you are:

The Promise of a Life that Repents

BIBLE MEDITATION:
At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; if that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.” - Jeremiah 18:7-8

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
God is saying here, “If you will repent of your sin, I will repent of the judgment I had planned.” That is a promise to every one of us today. Just because you may have failed in the past doesn’t mean that God is finished with you. Are you ready for some good news on the threshold of a new year?  You can have a brand new start!  There’s hope for you. Our God is the God of the second chance. Your life may be marred. Your life may have gotten off track because of some hidden sin or some stubbornness when you refused to yield to God.  But He is saying , “I don’t hold grudges. I am the God of the second chance.”

ACTION POINT:
This condition holds true for a life that is still pliable and gives God all the pieces.  If your life is broken, give Him all the pieces, but do it while it is still pliable, and He can make another vessel out of you.  Are you willing to do that?

Throwback Thursday: Lily in Walney Pond

"Lily in Walney Pond"

One of my favorite places to photography is Walney Park in Centreville, VA.  Though in the midst of a hectic commuter town with noise all around, it is a nice escape to a nature.

Should you go, be on the lookout for snakes and other wildlife.  While most of the time, all I saw were deer, I saw a snake or two over the years.  Several friends saw more snakes than me though.

Garden Perspectives: Pretty in Pink

"Pretty in Pink"

What can I say about the beauty of a Purple Coneflower ("Echinacha Purpurea"). I have loved the flower for years and grew plenty of them in the gardens at my previous home and have planted several in my garden at my current home.

These flowers add a unique color especially when bunched together and mixed with other flowers like the Black-Eyed Susan ("Rudbeckia fulgida").

Friday's Foto! -Coming Through Manassas

"Coming Through Manassas"

Now that I have more time in life, I am experimenting with Railroad Photography. Ever since I was a child, I have had an interest in trains and the railroads.

I grew up in Manassas where a busy railroad went through the Old Town area. My grandmother lived across the street from two busy railroads tracks where I spent several summers with her and watching the trains roar through the town.
