16 "When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3 And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” 4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. 6 And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him."
- Mark 16:1-6
Today we celebrate Easter, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave. He was crucified on Good Friday for our sins and rose on Easter. He paid the ultimate price for our sins -death- so that we wouldn't have to if we accepted Him as our Lord and Savior.
Sometimes I have a difficult time believing someone would do that for me. It's part of my nature to analyze and think about things much further than what I should- in some cases. This is one of them.
Whenever I question, I chat with a buddy of mine or read something written by Billy Graham, David Jeremiah, Charles Stanley, or Jack Graham. These men have written incredible books and devotions which remind me that we have to have faith! Belief in God and Jesus Christ requires faith. So, I focus on that- keeping Jesus in my mind while many other things try to get my attention.
God's Gift of Salvation is available to everyone and anyone who is willing to accept Him. There is no price, there is no work required or initiation or anything like that- just to have faith. Interested in becoming a Christian and learning more about Him and the life He has for you? Follow these steps:
Admit that you are a sinner, just like everyone else born into this world, until we confess to Jesus Christ and ask His forgiveness:
"(23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
(24) and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,"
-Romans 3:23-24, ESV
"(23) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 6:23, ESV
Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ:
(16) "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." -John 3:16, ESV
Confess your sins in a prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ:
(9) "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. "
- Romans 10:9, ESV
(13) For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
- Romans 10:13, ESV
"Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and do not deserve eternal life.
I believe You died and rose from the grave to make me a new creation and to prepare me to dwell in your presence forever.
Jesus, come into my life and take control,
forgive my sins and save me. I place my trust in You alone
for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life."
So now what?
If you prayed this prayer with your whole heart and believed what you did, you are now a Christian. My suggestion is to find a local church and become involved. Talk to the pastor about this experience and ask him to teach you where to go or what to do next.
If you are not familiar with a local church, a few excellent resources to get you started or who can follow up with you are:
Billy Graham Evangelistic Association
Southern Baptist Convention
Southern Baptist Conservatives
Church of the Nazarene
In Touch Ministries (Charles Stanley)
Turning Point Ministries (David Jeremiah)
PowerPoint Ministries (Jack Graham)
